Update

I almost forgot to leave an update about my daughters bed!!!

A few months back i posted about an ugly bed my mom gave to us for my daughter

well i sanded and painted the thing and it looked much better...

Well I've turned this ugly bed frame

Into this beauty!! (still in progress)

I started by painting the whole frame a beautiful turquoise my daughter picked out

and that paint job alone made a huge difference!!

I then painted the 'rings' a metallic gold

and then i hand painted on peacocks and a lotus blossom

the peacocks are blue, green, purple and a bit of gold

( before the lotus blossom)

I also added a few swirls to the bottom board

next was the side boards ( hand painted as well)

after it was all put together

I still need to paint the headboard

there is still progress needed to be made in her room ( more pillows, canopy, new sheets etc)

please ignore under the bed..that's the extra mattress

 ( gonna cover it or make something to hide it , no where to store it)

the PVC pipes on the wall are waiting to become a book sling.

i just have to go to town and buy the fabric

she loves her new bed!!

I still need to make some new curtains also.

(these are actually her old flat sheet!!)

I am entering this in the CSI (create...show...inspire) challenge

Inspiration

Every room in my house has an inspiration corner.

 this is a place where i put all of the items that are my inspiration for the overall design and theme of the rooms.

Bathroom

 African themed

The beads are handmade and i believe are actually from Africa. An aunt gave them to me many moons ago

The floor mat is made from dollar store bamboo place mats

Toothbrush and soap holders from  dollar store

Current project is our shower curtain rings ( in progress because I'm currently out of twine)

( the reason it is both is because some of my decor for the bedroom is in the living room. i don't have enough display room or shelves in the bedroom)

Found this book at goodwill for 50 cents.

Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes is a non-fiction children's book written by American author Eleanor Coerr and published in 1977.

The story is of a girl, Sadako Sasaki, who lived in Hiroshima at the time of the atomic bombing by the United States. She developed leukemia from the radiation and spent her time in a nursing home folding paper cranes in hope of making a thousand, which supposedly would have allowed her to make one wish, which was to live. However, she managed to fold 644 before she became too weak to fold any more, and died shortly after. Her friends and family helped finish her dream by folding the rest of the cranes which was buried with Sadako and build a statue of Sadako holding a giant golden paper crane in Hiroshima Peace Park after she died. Now every year on O Bon Day, which is a holiday in Japan to remember the fallen ones of the bombings, thousand of people leave paper cranes near the statue. On the statue is a plaque: "This is our cry. This is our prayer. Peace on Earth."

A taste of india

My daughter is half Indian. Her birth father was from Calcutta. Ive always liked the vibrant colors and styles of India. the Saris and bangles are beautiful!! I'm attempting to express the vibrancy and uniqueness of the culture and of my daughter in her room. i really want my daughter to be in touch with her culture.

It was this book 'Mamas Saris" that inspired the idea.

Ive created a few different pillows for her bed. her newest pillow is made from handkerchiefs i found for a

dollar at walmart..and stuffed it with a regular pillow i bought for $3. Its cheaper than buying stuffing and i still

have some leftover!

It was the flowers that caught my attention.

 Ive added a few more 'lanterns to her room.

Her room  isn't looking to bad. needs a bit of art work on the walls and some other decorations...

Her Mamo found this frame and thought it would be perfect for her room. 

I found the candles at the dollar store and thought they matched perfectly. I plan on buying more for the emblem on the front. i can peel it off and use it else where.
