Happy easter!!!

spent the day at my moms and sent the kiddo on an egg hunt. she had just woke up from a nap and was in a horrible mood. the egg hunt was just what she needed to cheer up!
Before the hunt...grumpy gus

After..happer than ever

The dog was even helping her hunt eggs!

blitzcraft....

Yesterday i went on a crafting binge. i was gone most of the day with my mom, but the few hours i had at home i definetly made the most of!!
I have tons of plain and ugly onesies that i am working on refashioning and appiqueing. here are some of the ones i did last night...

Peace, love and rock and roll... this is on the rear of the onesie. im planning on printing the words on the front.

this is a cool lil punk onesie..planning on adding other details to it

Beware...toxic!! this gas mask is the front of the onesie. planning on adding the 'biohazard' symbol to the rear!!

Bro-Bot!!
while at the flea market this weekend i happened to see a stuffed animal that someone had made, similar to this. I thought id give it a try to make one myself. it turned out great. i used leftover fabric from my stash, stuffing from and old pillow, and made him from scratch. there are a few touches still needed. im going to add buttons on the front... and his arm needs to be sewn back on...lol...ill post a tutorial soon, as i plan on making more of these....

Never Again!!!!

im just gonna keep this short...
i bought a boppy for $5 at a consigment sale. its practically brand new. the boppy itself is blue but had a pink flowerdy cover. i decided i wanted to try and make a cover myself...
That was the most difficult thing i have EVER made. it turned out ok but i wouldnt ever want to make one again. id rather pay the $8-$25 for a store bought cover.
here you can see the original boppy under the cover...
most of the general piecing together and sewing was decently easy ( first zipper ive ever sewn on) but the 'curve piece was soo difficult. you can see where i messed up and couldnt quite get it right...

WOWZAH!!!

I am soo proud of myself...!!!
i have been working on the babys crib set recently and have been making it on my own...so far i have the dust ruffle almost complete( need to get more fabric) and today i made... a crib sheet!!!it seemed a bit daunting at first but it was soo much easier than i thought.
i used 2 different tutorials...
i used the measurements from this site...
cut the fabric to 43 by 66 inch rectanngle, cut out 8 by 8 inch square from each corner. i sewed the 'corner' together. starting at the bottom so it is even....
then i used this tutorial to add the elastic to the corners...
4- 12inch pieces of 3/4 elastic folded in half and lined up fold with corner seam. pinned it theere an streched as i sewed.. after adding elastic i made a hem over the elastic.. turned out awesome. the best part is it is personalized to our tasted. and cost less than most crib sheets. i bought the fabric from walmart for 2.22 a yard. got a lil over 2 yards... cost me $5 all together, and i even have fabric squares and scraps leftover to play with..!! happy with the results.

Ill post some tutorial pics of how i did it when i make some more sheets!! which i will be doing for sure!!

Egg-tastic!!

I recently saw this image while skimming over martha stewarts craft page and i thought itd be neat to try and make the egg candles as easter decorations...
This morning while making breakfast i cracked open the tops of my eggs and saved the shell...

after cleaning out the shell i opened the top a bit more( very carefully) and placed a wick in the shell ( i already had the wicks)

I used some candles i already had.. you can light them and use the melted wax.. another way is to place the calndle in a small saucepot witha bit of water in it and heat it up until the wax is melted...

carefully pour the wax into the egg shell.. use a funnel if necessary..

prop up the wicks if necessary and allow the wax to cool..

once cool, display however you choose!!

you can even light them! the look awesome lit up! you can even see the crackle in the shell....!!!

Im planning on dying the shells when the family dyes eggs for easter... looking forward to seing them in different colors.. Happy easter!!!

new artwork..

ive been trying to liven up my daughters room. her theme is to be bollywood/indian themed....ive been wanting to make some artwork for her walls.. here was my first attempt.. i cant quite decide if i like it.. might retry for a cleaner look or on different fabric..
i had some really plain frames that i decided to work with...
i painted them blue/green and purple...(i forgot to get pics..lol)
working with the smaller frame i took the cardboard back and covered it with black fabric..
I made a "stencil" with paper of the picture i wanted ( i suggest freezer paper or something more substantial than regular paper..
Frugal tip!!- egg crates work fantastic to hold paint!
i used pink paint and a painting sponge to cover the stencil...
after letting it dry a it i peeled off the stencil and reframed the pic.... i still cant quite decide if i like it... im thinking making it cleaner and maybe more lively fabric will make it look better... btu it was a fun first attempt!!
